SIU Geologist nominated to U.S. Advisory Committee for Scientific Ocean Drilling

September 20, 2017

Professor Eric C. Ferré, a full professor in our Department of Geology, has recently been nominated to the U.S. Advisory Committee for Scientific Ocean Drilling (USAC) starting October 1, 2017 for a 3-year appointment. USAC members are peer-elected serving staggered terms.  They review research proposals and applications to sail on International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) expeditions, nominate new members to IODP panels, and discuss new initiatives to energize and engage the research community. The USAC currently oversees funding of $35m through 2020.  Eric participated in 3 IODP expeditions on the research vessel JOIDES Resolution as a structural geologist in 2011 and 2014 and this year as a paleomagnetist from April to June.

His expedition experience and scientific expertise make him an obvious choice to help manage scientific ocean drilling research.

We congratulate Dr. Ferré and think the USAC couldn't have made a better choice.
