Geology Professor Featured in Science News
The work of Daniel Hummer, Assistant Professor of Geology, is featured in a current article of 'Science News.' Hummer and his collaborators have used statistical methods normally used for ecological studies to predict the existence of over 140 undiscovered minerals containing the crucial element carbon. A worldwide hunt for these "missing" minerals, dubbed the 'Carbon Mineral Challenge', is now underway with Hummer as principle investigator. To date, six minerals previously unknown to science have already been found.
